Nuclear Disarmament

A Motion for Nuclear Disarmament Campaigning

This Union notes:

    1. Two nuclear weapons killed 237,000 people in Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
    2. There are over 10,500 known nuclear warheads held by the five recognized nuclear powers.
    3. On March 14, 2007 the UK parliament voted for the renewal of the Trident Missile System costing 25 billion pounds.

This Union believes:

    1. Nuclear weapons should never be used again.
    2. By disarming its dangerous and expensive nuclear arsenal, the UK has the opportunity to diplomatically encourage other countries to disarm.

This Union resolves:

    1. Members of the Union will be allowed use of the UBU logo in letter writing campaigns, posters and banners for nuclear disarmament.
    2. The Union will endorse through the press at least one legal, peaceful protest a year campaigning for nuclear disarmament.
